Alex Noren Reflects on British Masters Triumph and Career Revival

Alex Noren is back in the winner’s circle. The Swedish star claimed his first DP World Tour victory since 2018 with a gritty performance at the British Masters, reminding fans and himself of the talent that once made him one of Europe’s most consistent players.

Noren, who had struggled in recent years with injuries and form, played steady golf all week and held his nerve on the final hole to secure the title. Speaking after his victory, the 41-year-old shared his emotions, insights, and what this win means for his career going forward.

On Breaking a Seven-Year Winless Streak

Your first DP World Tour victory since 2018. How does it feel?

Alex Noren: “Extremely happy. It was an unbelievable week for me. I haven’t played like this for a long time. The first two days, I scored well even without great ball-striking. Then over the weekend, I really found my rhythm. To do it here in Britain, in front of fans who love the game, is very special.”

A Perfect Start on Sunday

You went 2-under through the first three holes. How much did that settle your nerves?

Alex Noren: “It made a big difference. On the 2nd, I hit a little hook pitch in there and was proud of that shot. Then I followed it up with birdies. Starting strong on a Sunday is so much easier than chasing all day.”

On the Bogey at 9 and Staying Focused

What went through your mind after the bogey on the 9th?

Alex Noren: “It was a mental mistake, not trusting my line. Same thing on 18 with the drive — more a lack of focus than a bad swing. After 9, I just told myself to keep working, like I do on the putting green. Don’t get upset, just acknowledge what’s wrong and fix it.”

Navigating the Pressure on 18

You had a two-shot lead coming down the last. How tense was that moment?

Alex Noren: “It was tense. I didn’t even know if I was one ahead or two ahead. The wind direction changed from earlier in the week, and I took too safe a line. It ended up being a mental mistake, but I’m glad I got the job done anyway.”

On Family and Motivation

How special is this win with your family watching?

Alex Noren: “It means a lot. My kids are now at an age where they love golf. They watch me on TV and even want to come out and see me play. Saying ‘hi’ to Iris, Roy, and my wife Jennifer on camera made it extra special. Sharing moments like this with them is priceless.”

Ryder Cup Hopes

With this win, do you think Luke Donald might consider you for the Ryder Cup team?

Alex Noren: “Honestly, I still dismiss it (laughs). Of course, it would be great, but right now I’m just happy to finally win again. It’s been a long time, and I’ll take this feeling first.”

Credit to Coaching and Adjustments

Earlier in the week, you weren’t happy with your ball-striking. What changed?

Alex Noren: “I spoke to my coach, and he gave me some simple setup adjustments. It cleaned up my swing and gave me confidence. I didn’t need my crazy practice swings anymore, and it felt so much better. I owe him a big dinner — actually, I’ve owed him for about 13 years!”

Closing Thoughts

For Alex Noren, the British Masters victory is more than just another trophy. It marks a return to form, a reminder of his resilience, and a new chapter in his career. With exemptions, ranking boosts, and fresh confidence, Noren looks ready to challenge on both sides of the Atlantic.
