Greater Noida, India – 16-year-old Kartik Singh is proving to be one of the most promising young golfers on the Indian circuit, as he surged ahead with a commanding three-shot lead at the IGPL Golf Tournament, played at the prestigious Jaypee Greens on Thursday.
Performance Highlights
Despite challenging conditions caused by heavy rain, which forced organizers to reduce par to 70 for the second round, Kartik showed maturity beyond his years. He carded a solid three-under 67 in the second round, building on his opening-day four-under 68. With a combined score of seven-under 135, Kartik now sits comfortably at the top of the leaderboard in only his second professional event.
His sharp play included steady putting and controlled drives, ensuring he remained composed even as conditions toughened, with the fourth hole reduced from a par-5 to a par-3.
Leaderboard Update
Karandeep Kochhar and Pukhraj Singh Gill are trailing in joint second place at four-under 138, while last week’s champion in Chandigarh, Gaganjeet Bhullar, is tied for fourth at two-under 140. Sharing that position with Bhullar are Kartik Sharma, Veer Ganapathy, and Raghav Chugh, making the competition fierce as the tournament heads into the next rounds.
Kartik Singh’s Reaction
Speaking after his round, Kartik expressed satisfaction but emphasized the need for consistency:
“I have played good golf in the first two days. I hope to keep going the same way and make fewer mistakes,” said the teenager, who is quickly becoming a name to watch in Indian golf.
Broader Significance
At just 16, Kartik Singh’s steady performance against experienced professionals highlights the rise of India’s next golfing talent. His composure under pressure and ability to adapt to course changes reflect the potential of a future star on the Asian and global golf stage.
Looking Ahead
With a three-shot cushion going into the next round, all eyes will be on Kartik to see if he can convert his strong start into a memorable finish. A victory at the IGPL would mark a significant milestone in his early career and further cement his reputation as one of India’s brightest young golfers.
