Anthony Kim’s long road back to professional golf reached a defining moment on Sunday as he captured the LIV Golf Adelaide title, sealing his first tournament victory since 2010.
The 40-year-old American closed with a flawless nine-under 63 at The Grange Golf Club to finish 23 under par, defeating Jon Rahm by three shots in one of the most emotional wins of the LIV season.
First Win Since 2010
Kim’s triumph marks his first title since the 2010 Houston Open on the PGA Tour. After stepping away from competitive golf more than a decade ago, his return to the winner’s circle completes a comeback few could have predicted.
Starting the final round five shots behind overnight co-leaders Jon Rahm and Bryson DeChambeau, Kim surged ahead with nine birdies, including a decisive stretch of five birdies in six holes from the 12th.
He sealed the victory at 23 under par, with Rahm finishing second at 20 under after a closing 71. DeChambeau struggled to a 74 and ended tied for third at 17 under alongside Tyrrell Hatton and Peter Uihlein.
A Personal Battle Away From Golf
Kim stepped away from the sport in 2012 following injuries and later revealed he had battled drug and alcohol addiction during his absence. He has spoken openly about experiencing dark periods and nearly walking away from the game permanently.
He returned to competition in 2024 as a wildcard on LIV Golf, later regaining his status through qualification. This season, he joined Dustin Johnson’s 4Aces team, making his Adelaide victory even more meaningful.
“It’s been overwhelming,” Kim said after the win. “But I’m never not going to fight for my family. Nobody else has to believe in me but me.”
From Rising Star to Redemption Story
Back in 2008, Kim was one of American golf’s brightest talents. He won twice on the PGA Tour before turning 25, became a Ryder Cup champion that same year, and reached as high as world No. 6.
His aggressive style and confidence made him a fan favorite. But injuries and personal struggles halted that trajectory.
Now, more than 15 years after his last victory and 12 years after leaving the sport, Kim has rewritten his story.
Team Results and Notable Finishes
Behind Kim and Rahm on the leaderboard:
- Bryson DeChambeau – 17 under
- Tyrrell Hatton – 17 under
- Peter Uihlein – 17 under
- Cameron Smith – 15 under
- Dustin Johnson – 12 under
In the team competition, the all-Australian Ripper GC claimed victory for the second consecutive week, edging Rahm’s Legion XIII. Kim’s 4Aces finished third.
A Win Bigger Than Golf
For Kim, this victory carries weight beyond rankings and prize money. After years away and personal challenges, lifting a trophy again represents resilience more than redemption.
His message after the round was simple: belief matters, especially during difficult seasons.
And in Adelaide, belief turned into one of the most powerful comeback wins professional golf has seen in recent years.
